People love having other people over. And it’s one of the great things about having friends and family members over.
You invite people over, you serve food and drinks. People bring gifts or snacks. You shoot the ball, you exchange stories, and people have a good time.
But here’s the thing, you have to be very careful who you invite over. Because last time I checked, if you have your brother or sister or their spouses over, they probably would not sue you if they slipped on your decking.
They probably would not turn around and look for a hot shot personal injury attorney out to collect millions of dollars and promises liability if they slip, fell and injured themselves in premises you owned.
Well, unfortunately, all bets are off when it comes to people who are not in your circle of family and friends.
With friends, you never know. Because there are inner circle friends. These are friends that are almost like blood relatives. These are people who basically take a bullet for you and who knows you like the back of their hands.
And there are other friends. I call these outer circle friends. You are more like acquaintances. You like being with each other, but you don’t really like each other that much.
And then the worst, of course, are frenemies. These, really, are people who call themselves your friends, but behave like enemies.
Now, let me tell you, you don’t want to find out in the worst way possible who is a first circle or inner circle friend and who is a frenemy. Because whenever there is the possibility that somehow, some way, somebody can make a tremendous amount of dollars suing you, people show their true colors.
A friend who gets injured badly on your premises probably would just want you to cover his or her hospital bills. They just want to get their life back together and they just say, “Hey, it happens. So just patch me up, fix me up, and let’s call it a day.”
But a frenemy, the only thing that he or she will see are dollar signs. So do yourself a favor, install plastic decking.
If you have some sort of outdoor patio or rooftop penthouse patio or some sort of view, install plastic decking. Because when people are on plastic and it has a nice surface, it’s harder for them to slip. It’s harder for them to injure themselves. It’s not as good as rubber, but it’s definitely better than a smooth slippery surface.
You don’t want to get sued. This is especially true if you do not have proper insurance.
So make sure you spare yourself from the headache of personal injury claims by increasing the safety of people visiting your outdoor premises by installing plastic decking.
